Out of Africa: An update from Roger Staley – CEO

By AAMEG | 20 December 2023

It is pleasing to look back on 2023 and review AAMEG’s achievements.  Our membership has grown, we have consistently hosted popular and oversubscribed networking events and the closing cash balance was the highest for three years.  Above all, our Annual Awards celebrating Australian ESG leadership in Africa were the biggest and best yet.  Full details of performance over the past financial year are available in the 2022-23 Annual Report released at last month’s Annual General Meeting.

Throughout 2023 we have defined our position in the national conversation as the peak body and voice for Australian companies operating in the African minerals and energy sectors.  We have reached a point where we are not only representing the interests of our Australian members in government engagement, but we are also being approached by African countries seeking Australian investment in their resources sectors.

Our Advocacy operating pillar has been strengthened in the past month by being part of the Australian government’s Australia Awards – Africa short course for mining governance and, from a security perspective, by an initial meeting with Australia’s Ambassador for Counter Terrorism and other government agencies.  Both stories are detailed in the full newsletter HERE.
