CSR Case Studies: Bannerman Resources in Namibia Direct Aid Program (DAP) funding

By AAMEG | 25 January 2012

The Erongo Region in Namibia has experienced a ‘uranium rush’ over the past several years with two new uranium mines already developed in the past 5 years while a number of potential mines are on the brink of development. Even though the region has an unemployment rate in excess of 30%, skills shortage remains a challenge.

Bannerman Resources in partnership with the Australian Government through the Direct Aid Program (DAP) will support the skills development of 7 (seven) previously disadvantaged Namibians (one from each of the seven constituencies in the Erongo region) in the electrical, fitting, boiler making, diesel mechanic trades. Total funding for this project is NAD 260,000 with the Australian Government’s component being NAD 227,500.

With the support from the Australian Government and local support from the Erongo Development Foundation, Bannerman Resources will now identify the suitable candidates and start them on their skills development path.
