West Africa Mining Security Conference
By AAMEG | 15 October 2024

In early October, AAMEG played a key role as a conference partner at the West African Mining Security Conference in Accra, Ghana. Roger delivered the welcoming speech, providing context of Australian investment in the region. With numerous members attending this opportunity helps cement our position between government and industry.
We were pleased to note a larger audience and increased participation from major mining companies and government bodies, partly attributable to the availability of simultaneous English-French translation.
Attendees, including security managers, risk analysts, and investment officers, engaged in vital discussions on the challenges and opportunities facing the mining sector in West Africa.
Conference partners included Australian High Commission and MS Risk Limited, with mining company sponsors including AAMEG members: Lycopodium, Perenti Group and Atlantic Lithium
The conference was larger and more broadly attended than those in 2022 and 2023. AAMEG attributes this to (a) DFAT responding to the feedback from previous events; (b) Greater engagement by the mining companies and (c) Simultaneous English/French translation.
Significant newcomers to the event included Rio Tinto, Austrade and the British High Commission Accra.
