The Africa Awards are back for 2024 – Nominations Open

By AAMEG | 18 July 2024

The Africa Awards are back for the SIXTH year in a row, and we are again celebrating Australian industry pioneers, committed to ESG principles, who are forging a path in the African resources sector.

“As the Australia-Africa Minerals and Energy Group, with nearly half of our membership base being mineral explorers or miners in African countries, the Africa Awards are a way to offer well-deserved recognition to Australian entities working towards a transparent, equitable and mutually beneficial resources industry in Africa,” AAMEG CEO Roger Staley said.

The 2023 Africa Awards Winners highlighted exactly that.

The stories of positive stakeholder engagement work in South Africa saw Orion Minerals take home the award for Emerging ESG Leader Award for an Explorer/Developer in 2023.

Meanwhile Geodrill’s investment in a local sporting taekwondo academy in Côte d’Ivoire who went on to win several medals and trophies at a competition in Egypt, enabled them to take out the Established ESG Leader Award for a Services Provider.

South32’s nomination tells the story of how they had funded the construction of the Kotulong Community Centre in consultation with the local community -which accommodates 60 vulnerable children in safe housing in Meyerton, South Africa – garnered them the Established ESG Leader Award for a Resource Producer.

“These colourful stories of Australian companies really contributing to the communities in which they operate, are what can sometimes move you to tears when you read the nominations come in – especially last year’s Change-Maker Award winner” said AAMEG CEO Roger Staley.

The Australian Doctor’s for Africa, who won the Change-Maker Award, highlighted their program which sees hundreds of babies and children recover their walking ability by treating clubfoot early.

“We’re now on the hunt for the good news stories of 2024. We want to hear from Australian companies, who are exploring, developing, producing or servicing in Africa, doing the right thing by the communities in which they operate,” Staley said.

“We thank our Sponsors for the 2024 Africa Awards program – MCA, RSM, Perenti and Wood – and look forward to announcing the winners at a Cocktail Reception at Africa Down Under in September,” he said.

Applications for the 2024 Africa Awards are now open for the next four weeks and set to close at midnight on 16 August.
