Mining Indaba 2025 Wrap Up
By AAMEG | 25 March 2025

This year’s Mining Indaba event was the largest that has ever been hosted in Cape Town since its inception. Stretching over two large buildings, the conference saw over 10,500 delegates, 122 countries, 1,450 mining execs, 1,400 government officials and 58 Ministers in attendance.
Word is that next year’s event is going to be even bigger, so the AAMEG suggestion is – get your accommodation booked very early!
Thank you to our partners Hyve Group and South African Airways, whose support made our participation possible.
Mining Indaba continues to be the most relevant Africa mining gathering on the continent. Its contribution to the overall sector cannot be underestimated. If you are only going to do one thing in Africa next year, it really should be Mining Indaba 2026.
If you are based in Australia, you can bookend the year at Africa Down Under which really is the only other significant mining African focused conference.

ADVOCACY AT MINING INDABA
Australia Trade and investment (Austrade) Commissioner Africa Scott Morris hosted a very well attended roundtable event to discuss current and future initiatives and a number of collaborative opportunities which will continue to be explored for 2025 and beyond. Scott is based out of Nairobi in Kenya and continues to be the key part of Australian trade interests into the African continent.
The Australian Deptartment of Foreign Affairs held a cocktail reception event, hosted by High Commissioner to South Africa, HE Ms Teagan Brink, where the Botswana Minister of Minerals and Energy Bogolo Kenewendo offered a bright and optimistic vision of Botswana and the broader region for the mining sector.
During the week there was also an opportunity to have an informative discussion with Lara Nassau, who is currently the Assistant Secretary, Africa Branch, Middle East and Africa Division for DFTA, during her first trip to Cape Town’s Mining Indaba.
PRE-MINING INDABA SUNDOWNER
Our annual pre-Indaba sundowner was once again a great success, held on the Sunday at the beautiful Two Oceans Aquarium. This exclusive event provided a chance for our members to connect before Mining Indaba kicked off.
We are extremely grateful to our sponsors — Andaman Partners, ECG Engineering and Response-Med — for their support, which made this event possible.
We’re proud to report that the event was a sell-out, with next year’s event already locked in. It was also a privilege to have officials from the Australian High Commission join us on the evening.
Thank you to everyone who attended.
INDABA NETWORKING EVENTS
AAMEG attended several members’ functions during Mining Indaba week.
Thank you to Orion Minerals Ltd for hosting us at their cocktail event at the beautiful V&A Waterfront.
We also attend Paydirt Media’s annual dinner, a long-standing partner and another highlight of the week.
Globe 24/7 hosted a fantastic event at Cabo Beach, Caterpillar at Grand Africa Café & Beach with Geodrill and Control Risks also hosting us at their events.
All excellent events, full of good discussions and stepping stones in building longer-term relationships.
