By AAMEG | 10 October 2024

The Australia-Africa Minerals and Energy Group (AAMEG) would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank Roger Staley for his tenure as CEO. Roger joined AAMEG in January 2022 bringing with him years of experience on the African continent which he successfully translated into his role of supporting the AAMEG membership base.

Roger has continued to build the AAMEG profile both locally and internationally. During the recently held Africa Down Under Conference in Perth he delivered the most successful AAMEG Africa Awards Event, which has grown significantly under his stewardship. Most recently Roger delivered an address to the West Africa Mining Security Conference held in Ghana in partnership with the Australian High Commission Ghana and MS Risk.

Roger continues to be a strong AAMEG promoter and passionate about the African continent which will be material in supporting the incoming CEO, Doug Horak who will transition into the role from mid-October.

Doug, originally from South Africa, moved to Australia in 2007 and soon found himself involved in the “Australia Africa corridor” through the Australia Africa Business Council of WA. With the establishment of AAMEG in 2011 he found this new platform an excellent way to support Australian companies operating in Africa. Doug later worked with one of the “big four” accounting and audit firms, where he helped establish their “Africa Desk”, an internal group that would leverage their global company footprint to support Australian companies operating on the continent. More recently Doug worked with a global minerals laboratory group, responsible for their Australian clients operating across numerous African countries.

Over the years Doug has worked on the ground in 12 African countries and supported clients in a further 13 mining destinations across the continent. He is a passionate Australian-African resolute in his belief that the resources industry is one of the great economical catalysts available to African Governments to foster economic growth and the development of local communities. Doug strongly believes AAMEG to be a critical platform to support Australian companies operating and looking to invest in Africa as a resource destination.

“We have a diverse membership and supporter base within AAMEG, with decades and decades of relevant experience for operating in African countries. Leveraging this broad knowledge base makes for an incredibly powerful competitive advantage when it comes to Australian companies investing in the African resources sector “said incoming CEO Doug Horak.

The Board of AAMEG sincerely thanks Roger for his effort and commitment over his period of tenure and warmly welcomes Doug to the role.
