William Witham Appointed to Lead AAMEG
Following an extensive recruitment process, the Board of AAMEG is delighted to announce the appointment of William Witham as Chief Executive Officer.
William has held senior executive roles across the Australian and African resources sector for over two decades and has worked directly in Namibia, Botswana, Cameroon, Congo, Gabon, Egypt, Niger and Kenya. His further experience in member-based organisation leadership, including with the Chamber of Minerals & Energy WA (Government Relations and Policy), National Party WA (Corporate Director) and South Coast Natural Resource Management Inc. (Chair), will be invaluable.
“William brings an exceptional pedigree to the AAMEG CEO role. Not only does he bring critical leadership experience and networks, William is skilled in stakeholder management, government relations and policy development, including lobbying and negotiating at the State and Federal levels,” commented Tim Carstens, AAMEG’s Chairman.
A country boy at heart, William hails from Esperance and holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Western Australia with honours in Geology. In 2005, he completed a leadership development program with the Australian Institute of Management.
Commenting on his appointment, William Witham said, “I welcome the challenge and opportunity to support the interests of Australian resource and energy companies operating on the African continent. My focus will be on building lasting relationships and ensuring the significant efforts of Australian companies are recognised and understood at the highest levels of government, both locally and abroad. By strengthening the collaboration between governments and facilitating greater cooperation and connections between members through the sharing of insights and intelligence, I believe Australia is well positioned to remain at the forefront of exploration and investment in Africa.
William commenced with AAMEG on Monday 15 January.
