Due to the unprecedented and challenging times that we are currently facing, the Africa Mining Summit for 2020 will take place in a virtual format with the dates remaining on September 15/16.
William’s panel discussion is scheduled to take place on 15 September at 16h30 for 60 minutes, as follows:
Session 5: Energy Storage – Battery metals evolution & coming revolution
Discussing not just underlying supply/demand factors for key metals and minerals for Li-Ion based technologies, but also changing chemistries and their likely impacts on these. Discussion on the ‘new kids on the block’ competing with Li-Ion, i.e. LOHC which consumes key metals like PGM’s, Titanium, Tungsten and Aluminium, and REDOX Flow batteries which need Vanadium, Stainless Steel and Aluminium.
The session will also examine the drivers, key factors, impacts now manifest and challenges faced by policymakers and motor manufacturers blindly committing to wholesale revolution and replacement of traditional transportation power units like ICE’s (Internal Combustion Engines) with full EV solutions across all passenger and commercial logistical networks. How are these positively and negatively impacting Mining in Africa for the future and the opportunity for the establishment of a full metals value chain to enable battery manufacture in Africa?
Each discussion panel will conclude with 10 minutes of pre-submitted questions from AMS2020 participants. Additionally, questions may be submitted by 4:30pm CAT with follow-up Q&A recordings posted at the end of the day.
Panel Chair: William (Bill) Witham, CEO of Australia-Africa Minerals and Energy Group
Dr Tony Harwood, President & CEO of Montero Mining
Naphtally Mafa, Founder & Managing Director of African Resources Development
