Fadzai is a social impact strategist and independent consultant working with organisations in the extractives industry to manage their social and economic impact. Passionate about helping organisations to achieve impactful and sustainable socio-economic outcomes in the private, public and community sectors, Fadzai was also previously an Associate Director at Social Ventures Australia – a social purpose organisation driving better social outcomes in Australia through innovative systems change.
In 2009 Fadzai founded, and is currently the Executive Chairperson of, The African Dream Foundation; a scholarship fund and leadership incubator investing in academic and non-academic skills development of academically gifted young leaders in Africa experiencing financial disadvantage. A past and present board member of various not for profit organisations, Fadzai has been a member of the Australia Africa Business Council, non-executive director of Fleming Financial Trist and is also a guest lecturer at Curtin Graduate School of Business MBA program, as well as The University of Western Australia Graduate School of Business Master of Applied Finance.
Fadzai has won several awards including the 2014 Business Entrepreneur Award and the 2013 Ambassador/High Commissioner Choice Award.
Professor Fiona Haslam McKenzie
Fiona’s international work is currently focused on mining activities in Canada and South Africa and through a Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade teaching program across nine African nations. Fiona has extensive experience in population and socio-economic change, mining and the oil and gas industries, housing, regional economic development, and the analysis of remote, regional and urban socio-economic indicators.
Fiona has served on several government and private sector boards. Previously the Western Australian Director of the Australian Housing and Urban Research Institute, she then subsequently led the CSIRO Minerals Down Under Regions in Transition Project. In 2012 Fiona was appointed Principal Research Leader of the Regional Economies – Enduring Community Value from Mining program for the Remote Economic Participation Co-operative Research Centre until 2015, when she was appointed co-director of the Centre for Regional Development at the University of Western Australia.
Currently the Deputy of AAMEG, Ben is a partner in PwC’s Assurance practice, specialising in the resources sector primarily in mining, but also oil and gas. Through his role in driving PwC’s growth in the mid-tier and junior mining sectors, he developed a passion for supporting dynamic and growing organisations and helping companies to achieve and exceed their potential.
He is the national leader of PwC’s Australia-Africa practice, which connects Australian companies with PwC’s leading African network, supported by the Australian team which understands African business, culture and objectives, and connects clients to partners on the ground where needed.
Ben spent three years as PwC’s Global Mining Knowledge Manager on the firm’s Global Mining Leadership Team supporting and growing PwC’s major account teams around the world and has extensive experience in providing audit-related services to the resources sector globally covering a vast array of commodities. He has been the project manager and lead author of Mine, PwC’s flagship mining industry publication, as well as being heavily involved in a number of PwC’s mining industry publications.
Currently the CEO of AAMEG, William has held senior executive roles across the Australian and African resources sector for over two decades and has worked directly in Namibia, Botswana, Cameroon, Congo, Gabon, Egypt, Niger and Kenya. He has further experience in member-based organisation leadership, including with the Chamber of Minerals & Energy WA (Government Relations and Policy), National Party WA (Corporate Director) and South Coast Natural Resource Management Inc. (Chair).
William’s experience spans corporate leadership in resource development in Africa, senior roles in resource sector representative bodies and direct experience in Government lobbying and negotiating at the State and Federal levels.
