Oxfam Australia and the Melbourne Business School are again partnering to hold their Sustainable Mining Symposium. This is an initial notification to request you ‘save the date’ – 21st April 2017, 8.30 – 4.30, Melbourne.
This year’s symposium is titled Sustainable Mining: Putting Gender on the Agenda.
It will provide practical information and stimulate discussion on the challenges and opportunities for companies in ensuring that the potential impacts of oil, gas and mining projects on women and girls are mitigated, and that women are able to meaningfully participate in company-community decision making processes.
The Symposium will be an opportunity to discuss with colleagues and industry leaders your own work on gender, and learn more about how gender impacts can best be considered in extractives projects. They will also present new work and tools from Oxfam, including their updated guide to gender impact assessment and their recent publication ‘Gender and the Extractive Industries – Putting Gender on the Corporate Agenda’ which sets out the business case for companies to strengthen policy commitments to respecting women’s rights and to undertake gender impact assessments as part of their due diligence and community engagement processes – See attached.
Participants will be invited from large and small mining companies and investors. A select number of academics, government representatives and community organisations will be invited. The format will focus on panel discussion and active engagement from the floor.
A copy of the communiqué from the last Symposium is attached Mining-Symposium_Communique_Resettlement. There are limited places to encourage discussion, so save the date today.
A formal invitation and program will be forthcoming, and I encourage you to respond promptly.
Please register your interest in attending with Sachie Seneviratne (firstname.lastname@example.org).
For further information or if you have any questions on the content of the Symposium, please contact Chris Madden (email@example.com).
